Officially Bummed
Okay, gang, I am officially bummed. I figured that the review of the World's Largest Dungeon would garner some interest, and it appears that this has been the case, but I also hoped that it would garner some comments as well. I don't know if I've been clear on this point, but I really like receiving comments, even if they're negative. Heck, I'd even settle for a, "Yes, this thing is on and we do hear you."
As far as that one goes, I guess it hits home because that's a review that I did as a "freebie." I wasn't sent a review copy of the WLD, I bought it with my own hard-earned cash, at full price (I support my friendly local game store). That isn't to say that I wouldn't have purchased it anyway, but since I did, I thought that a review of it might get some discussion flowing.
I guess what I'm asking for is that if you read a review and you like it, or if you dislike it, or if you disagree, or if you have something to add, or heck, if you're just bored; leave a comment! Let us know that you are reading these and getting some usefulness out of them. I like to compare notes and thoughts on a product, and I'm always available to answer questions about something I've reviewed.
Please, don't be afraid to speak up! Good gaming!
Re:Officially Bummed
sorry, i've been too busy gaming to post any comments.
Re:Officially Bummed
I too tould really appreciate comments on my reviews. I am new to this reviewing lark and still trying hard to tweak my review style, it would help me out alot to hear back from anyone who reads me.
Perhaps Whtknt should start the ball rolling by posting a few comments out there.
Cheers

Re:Officially Bummed
Offer a monthly prize randomly drawn from those who post comments. A small PDF or something to get expsoure to a PDF company or an old book that no one on staff is using.
Re:Officially Bummed
When you look at the number of visitors that go to EN World versus the number of review comments that are left there, percentage wise, we are ahead. But leaving comments is not something that folks tend to do unless they either disagree with something that the reviewer said or have a direct question concerning the material. I would like to see more folks contributing articles to the various guilds and becoming more involved that way then just leaving comments on reviews, but that's just me.
As far as giveaways go, I used to hold contests on a regular basis. But it got really expensive to ship stuff and so I stopped. Maybe in the future, but not until my financial situation improves much more than it is now.
Re:Officially Bummed
Yeah, some more articles in general would be good. Working on one at the moment ;)
Let's just keep leaving comments ourselves and surely it has to catch on :)
Sorry, I don't leave many comments for reviews. I mainly only read the reviews of d20 fantasy stuff - as that is what I may use.
I reckon we have some excellent reviewers here. Very busy people. Also some of the old GM Perspective articles (b4 I began contributing ;)) were EXCELLENT. I will check back on them to see if the writers have added more comments ;)
Also some writers indicated 'this the first in a series' or 'there are more to come'. Where are they ;)? There are some awesome articles there I would LOVE to see additions to.
I noticed a company offered to help out with prizes. Has this been acted upon?
It is great to see some new faces over here. (Especially following the $ drive on ENWORLD). Let's hope they stick around....and leave comments ;)

Re:Officially Bummed
I have noticed a lack of comments on other article areas too. Especailly the GM's perspective I have neen poring over.
is it there just aren't enough of us or people read and then do not reply.
Another pointer. The authors need to go back and answer the comments posted by interested onlookers. I think ony one author has done so frequently.
This would encourage more people to post comments - nowing that the writer may answer their comments.
This may happen more with reviews, but I can see why you would be bummed.
I am hoping to contribute to the GMs perspective (and maybe others), but I too would appreciate feedback.

Re:Officially Bummed
I generally try to respond to comments that are posted to my reviews but I do miss a few, especially once the review has left the front page). Still, if you alert me that you left a comment, I'll certainly respond to it.

Ghost ran a large group of us players through WLD. We played for nearly three months and barely made a dent. The monotony of door after door and never seeing the surface wore the group down and brought an abrupt end to the campaign. The maps are super, though it was interesting to watch Ghost scramble to find the right description for each room we busted into. Whether that's the books fault, or just the sheer enormity of it all, was unclear. Had our group been smaller, and perhaps more advanced, we could have pressed on with less loss-of-life and more loot. As it played out, though, it was just too damn big.
Perhaps you could sell your copy on eBay.
Regarding comments; I too love to get comments on my reviews and try to answer all who engage my work. I plan to go and and a comment or two to the reviews I've written, just to clarify some stuff and encourage additional interaction. We'll see if it works . . .
Re:Officially Bummed
Well, I've been lurking and reading here for years, but just joined up. I really don't leave comments on reviews because I simply don't read them that often. I love the articles and advice that are available here (especialy GM's Perspective) because I can yoink items and ideas for my own game.
I'll have to go back and post some comments on the things that I like the best, just to up the old post count (3 and climbing! )
Re:Officially Bummed
Well as a publisher we would be more than happy to offer a pdf once a month as a prize, if it would help the site glean a few more comments.
Especially if they are good ones of our products
Re:Officially Bummed
Since the fundraising drive I have been trying to leave more comments, but only when I actually have something to say. I don't want to get repetitive and just tell people "Good review, thanks" all the time.
As Ghostwind mentioned, contributing to the guilds and such will help the site much more than a few comments. Surely many of us have an interesting spell, magic item, trap, encounter, NPC to contribute. And if it is something you have already used in your campaign then adding a little background info will hardy take any time.
Re:Officially Bummed
Having come in late I have responded to several reviews that may be old, but were of interest.
Comments STILL seem to be low, despite the high number of views.
Looking at ENWORLD Articles they have a similar amount of views, but a lot more comments. Why is that? What can we do to encourage comments.
Joe's idea was sound, but I can see the site is asking for donations and free give-aways may be hard.
There does have to be a wat to encourage comments however.....
Even finishing each article with PLEASE leave me a comment.
Please note, having been around and had a good look at site I have posted several comments. Maybe if we keep posting several we may encourage others to do likewise.
I use my user account - last 10 additions and keep track of all of these to check comments.
