Conan?

Anyone out these with the Conan d20 ruleset who might be interested in a play-by-post game? Nothing firm at this time, I'm just gathering interest, but if there is enough, I might try my hand at running a game. To be clear, you will need a copy of the Conan Roleplaying Game from Mongoose Publishing.

Specifics and where the game will be held to be determined, though if Ghost doesn't mind, we may be able to run it here in the forums (maybe he would even make a special board for us; might generate some publicity). On the other hand, I'm a member of Roleplay Market, and they have an automated die roller (membership is free).

RE: Conan?

Prefer to start at 1st level.

Quite happy to use Torn Asunder (which I also have).

I have both the original and 'Atlantean' rules, so will use the latter.

For online games, it tends to be best to leave die rolls to the GM, because you can be certain that asking someone to roll something means they'll disappear somewhere without net access for the next 2 weeks while everyone else waits for them!

When do you want a character by?

Re:Conan?

Yeah, I thought of that after I posted. Didn't think about those books being published by the same people. Do we have any at the store?

Re:Conan?

I can order it. We've only got the full core book there.

Re:Conan?

Thanks Ghost. I'll let you know.

RE: Conan?

I'm interested and yes, I can create a forum for it if you want.

RE: Conan?

I just wanted to point out that this is not strictly for staff members of d20 Magazine Rack! Anyone who reads this message is invited to join, though I'm going to place the cut-off at six people. If I get just three that are interested, however, I may go ahead and start it up with the option to add a few players later.

RE: Conan?

I'd love to play - I have it but haven't found anyone who wants to play yet...

RE: Conan?

That's two, do I hear just one more? Actually, if you two can give me a few days to look over the rules and put together a starter adventure, I'll kick it off with the two of you and we can add others if any interest surfaces. After all, how many times has Conan faced danger alone?

I'll just ask a few questions to get things rolling:

1. I think I'd like to do it here. That way, we can generate some interest in the site, and it makes it easier for all involved. Do you want to make your own dice rolls or would you like me to handle the details and just post the results of your actions?

2. Would you like to start at 1st level and work your way up, or begin a little higher (say, 3rd level)?

3. Would anyone object to me using the material from Torn Asunder from Bastion Press? I've always felt that Conan should have realistic critical effects, and that product offers them.

4. Even though it will result in more powerful characters overall, I think I'd like to use the alternate ability score generation method described in the rules (1d10+8 for each ability). Again, I feel that this is well within the Conan mythos. Any objections?

RE: Conan?

Actually, I'd be happy to jump into this too. Of course I have the original error-filled version of the rules so don't blame me if I take bullet-proof vest as an armor item. ;-)

As to your questions, I'll go with whatever the majority wants to do re: level, crits, etc. It's all good to me!

RE: Conan?

I'm flexible. Just do what you can, and if it takes a few days more, we'll adjust.

RE: Conan?

This sounds very interesting to me. Let me count the reasons why I'd like to jump in . . .

I've never played an RPG online before. The experience may be unforgettable.

And

I do have the book.

And

I've always wanted to try Conan, but I'm a big chicken. Maybe this will be liberating!!!

I think I shall watch for a while and see how things go. Be sure to hook me regarding where the "playing" will be posted. This should be fun . . .

RE: Conan?

So I assume we are going with 1st level characters then?

RE: Conan?

Character winging his way to you as I write...

RE: Conan?

I'll try to have everything by Tuesday but it's gonna be close. Will be out of town tomorrow and Monday is always hectic.

Re:Conan?

Has anyone seen the "Pocket Edition" of the Atlantean core book that is mentioned on the Mongoose site. It's a might cheaper than the big book, so I'm thinking of picking it up. Just wondering if it's missing anything extremely important, and what kind of "paperback" it is. Are we talking mass-market paperback size complete with newsprint-style paper, or is it quality stuff that won't fall apart within two weeks of heavy use.

Re:Conan?

It's just like the Pocket Player's Handbook that Mongoose put out for D&D. It's trade paperback sized and holds up fairly well with use.

RE: Conan?

Is there room for another character? I have the rules and love the stories (although I am finally reading the Solomon Kane stories and like Howard's writing in those a bit more, but the settings aren't as good.)

Alan

RE: Conan?

Definitely room, Alan. Now's the time to jump in. There's a form fillable sheet on Mongoose's website I believe.

RE: Conan?

Bring it, Alan! Send me the chaacter to my home addy (whtknt at cableone dot net).

RE: Conan?

Tysdaddy, you should consider joining! This is going to be a learning experience for all of us, so don't feel like you're going to be all alone. I've only read the rules enough to get a feel for the system, so expect some stalls and false starts. We'll muddle through.

Online gaming is a unique experience. I wouldn't necessarily say "unforgettable," but "unique" certainly qualifies. It's very different from sitting at a table.

RE: Conan?

We are. I have Megan's character, though I'm not sure she'd want me to reveal too much about it just yet. I'll leave it to her to tell you what she wants you to know. Attributes are 8+1d10. Any class/race combo (within the context of the Conan rules) is okay.

RE: Conan?

If you folks can get characters to me by next Tuesday, that will give me time to look them over for a start as early as Friday. Steve, can you have a forum devoted to us set up by then? We will use the Atlantean Rules (as those are the only rules I have), start at 1st level, all attributes are 8+1d10. Any class/race is fair game (from the Conan rules, of course). Submit characters to me via e-mail at whtknt@cableone.net, please.

RE: Conan?

Good news, folks! I have three characters that are ready to go, so give me a few days to get an introduction put up and a few rules for the forum and we'll get this thing started!
