Icons and Commands: Symbol Manipulation, Part Two

By Matthew Lynn

Good morning, mappers! My name is Matthew Lynn, and this is the second in an ongoing series of columns written by me, and intended to reduce the learning curve for mapping with Campaign Cartographer 2. This particular column is also the second part in my tutorial on Symbol Manipulation.

What will you need for this tutorial? First, Campaign Cartographer 2 from Profantasy, Inc (sorry, if you have Campaign Mapper, you will need to upgrade to CC2). If you haven't upgraded to CC2 Pro, this won't be of much use to you. Second, you need to have read Part 1, and preferably completed my first tutorial, Symbol Creation.

Now, enough chatter, let's get back to work. If you did my Symbol Creation tutorial, you should have a copy of the Wizards Lab.fsc symbol catalog. If you didn't do that tutorial, go and do it! Or you can download the catalog here.

Hand Drawn Maps - Part 2

By Allyn@darkleagues.com

When we think about hand drawn maps and what they look like, what do we think about? The first thing that generally comes to mind is parchment, but what is parchment?

Icons and Commands II: Symbol Manipulation, Part One

By Matthew Lynn

Good morning, mappers! My name is Matthew Lynn, and this is the second stage in an ongoing series of columns written by me, and intended to reduce the learning curve for mapping with Campaign Cartographer 2. This is part 1 in my Symbol Manipulation Tutorial.

What will you need for this tutorial? First, Campaign Cartographer 2 from Profantasy, Inc (sorry, if you have Campaign Mapper, you will need to upgrade to CC2). Since the intent of this tutorial is to discuss the SYMMGR dialog, it will be of use to users of CC2 Pro, only. If you have an older version, I highly recommend upgrading to CC2 Pro. The improved interface and assorted innovations make it well worth the upgrade.

Icons and Commands, Part Three

By Matthew Lynn

Good morning, mappers! My name is Matthew Lynn, and this is the third in an ongoing series of columns intended to reduce the learning curve for mapping with Campaign Cartographer 2.

OK, now open up your copy of Wizards Lab.fsc. Wait a moment, while I recreate my copy. Pesky hard drive crashes....:)

Today, we will draw the fiendish foot prints we mentioned in Part 2.

Icons and Commands, Part Two

By Matthew Lynn

Good morning, mappers! My name is Matthew Lynn, and this is the second in an ongoing series of columns intended to reduce the learning curve for mapping with Campaign Cartographer 2. Just like in Part I, I have an "Icons & Commands" section to the left. If you do not see an icon or command here that you were looking for, it may have appeared in Part I.

Intro to Hand Drawn Maps in CC2

by Allyn@darkleagues.com

CC2: It's not just for Forgotten Realms anymore

CC2 Pro from Profantasy Software (www.profantasy.com) is a versatile and downright amazing piece of software. Easily recognizable are the big, colored polys used to create maps of fantasy worlds that guide players through adventures both mysterious and fantastic.

One thing that I felt these maps always lacked, however, was the ability to put themselves into the hands of the characters themselves. Unless your fantasy world is rather modern, the characters roaming through it wouldn't have a boldly colored, satellite view map to guide them. Those maps are for the players and game masters. What the characters need are hand drawn maps.
